Communication Style Test
Find out how you communicate under pressure, in conflict, and in everyday life — and what it means for your relationships and career.
What this test measures
This assessment maps your communication behaviour across four styles defined by the intersection of assertiveness (how directly you express needs and opinions) and emotional regulation (how you handle tension and resistance). The four styles — Assertive, Passive, Aggressive, and Passive-Aggressive — describe patterns that are most visible under pressure. Assertive communication is the healthiest and most effective style, but most people have a learned default that served them once and now sometimes gets in the way.
What the Communication Style Test measures
Your answers are scored across 4 core dimensions:
- Assertive
You communicate assertively in many situations, though under specific stressors (high emotional stakes, authority figures, conflict) you may occasionally drift toward passive or aggressive patterns. You have the foundations for full assertiveness and specific growth edges to develop.
- Passive
You have genuine passive tendencies that show up most clearly under pressure or in specific relationships. You can be direct in low-stakes contexts but may go quiet, agree against your own judgment, or defer when things become emotionally charged.
- Aggressive
Aggressive communication patterns appear in specific situations — usually when you feel threatened, disrespected, or frustrated. In calmer contexts you manage this well; the growth edge is developing the same regulation under the conditions that reliably trigger your aggressive response.
- Passive-Aggressive
Passive-aggressive patterns appear in your communication in specific contexts — usually where you feel unable to say what you actually mean and unwilling to simply comply. Identifying the specific conditions that produce this response is the key to developing beyond it.
