What this test measures

The Holland Code is one of the most widely used career frameworks in the world, used by high schools, universities, and career counsellors globally. It identifies six career personality types and matches them to work environments. Developed by psychologist John Holland in the 1950s, the model holds that people perform best and feel most satisfied when their personality type matches their work environment. Your top one or two types form your personal Holland Code — a reliable map to careers where you are most likely to thrive.

What the Holland Code Career Test measures

Your answers are scored across 6 core dimensions:

  • Realistic

Practical, hands-on work has real appeal to you, though you are equally capable of working in more abstract or interpersonal contexts. You likely have a mix of physical and intellectual or social interests and feel at home in roles that blend tangible work with other elements.

  • Investigative

Analytical and intellectual work is something you find engaging and do well, though you balance it with other interests — practical problem-solving, working with people, or creative thinking. You bring intellectual rigour to your work without being purely research-oriented.

  • Artistic

Creative and expressive work has genuine appeal to you, and you bring originality and aesthetic sensibility to what you do. You are not exclusively artistic in your orientation — you can work effectively within structure when needed — but your best output tends to carry a distinctive, personal quality.

  • Social

Working with and helping people is something you value and do well, though you balance it with interests in analysis, creativity, or task-focused work. You can be effective in interpersonal roles and enjoy them, but you do not need constant social contact to feel energised.

  • Enterprising

Enterprising activities — leading teams, influencing outcomes, taking initiative — are genuine parts of your professional identity, though you balance them with other interests. You can shift into persuasion or leadership mode when needed and do it well, without it being your sole orientation.

  • Conventional

Structure and organisation are things you value and work well within, though you are flexible enough to function in less defined environments. You bring attention to detail and procedural reliability to your work without being exclusively rule-bound in your orientation.
