What this test measures

The VIA (Values in Action) Classification was developed by psychologists Martin Seligman and Christopher Peterson as part of positive psychology's effort to catalogue human strengths rather than deficits. It identifies 24 character strengths organised under six core virtues. Research shows that knowing and using your signature strengths increases wellbeing, engagement, and meaning.

What the VIA Character Strengths Test measures

• Wisdom

  Moderate Wisdom — you draw on curiosity, learning, and judgment in an applied way. You are thoughtful when it matters and open to ideas without being dominated by abstract inquiry.

• Courage

  Moderate Courage — you draw on courage selectively — persisting through genuine challenges, acting with honesty in most situations, and bringing real energy to pursuits that matter to you.

• Humanity

  Moderate Humanity — warmth, kindness, and social perceptiveness are present and real in your character without defining everything about how you engage with others.

• Justice

  Moderate Justice — teamwork, fairness, and civic responsibility are genuine values for you, present in how you engage with groups and communities without defining your entire identity.

• Temperance

  Moderate Temperance — you show meaningful self-regulation and humility in most situations without being dominated by caution or self-restraint in everything you do.

• Transcendence

  Moderate Transcendence — appreciation, gratitude, hope, and meaning are real parts of your character that show up in particular moments and contexts without dominating everything.
